by - Senior Editor -

The Cubs announced that pitcher C.J. Riefenhauser has cleared waivers and has been assigned to Triple-A Iowa.

In 2016, he had a 7.30 ERA with 12 strikeouts and eight walks in 15 appearances in the minors. For his career in the minors, he has a 30-24 record with an impressive 2.89 ERA and 15 saves.

The Cubs claimed him off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles in February.

Riefenhauser was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 20th round in the 2010 MLB Draft.
