Cubs' top pitching prospect suffers leg injury |
The top Cubs pitching prospect Dylan Cease has landed on the seven-day disabled list on Friday with a leg injury.
Cease suffered the injury when he went to cover the third base bag and stepped on it awkwardly in the second inning. The injury doesn't appear to be too serious as he walked off the field under his own power. However, it ended his start for Class A South Bend. For the season, Cease is 1-2 with 2.65 ERA with 54 strikeouts. He sported a 2.22 ERA in 12 starts in Class-A last season. He is a power pitcher that has amassed 145 strikeouts in 102 2/3 total innings as the Cubs selected him in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The other top Cubs prospects ahead of Cease in MILB's prospect rankings are only outfielder Eloy Jimenez and budding star Ian Happ.
