Cubs News: Addison Russell injury update |
Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has been on the 10-day disabled list with a right foot injury since the beginning of August.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon and general manager Jed Hoyer both reiterated on Monday evening that Russell will not be rejoining the ballclub very soon. They do not even have a timetable for his return and the injury is muscular with plantar fasciitis. "He's coming along slowly," Hoyer said about Russell. "As cliche as it is, we'll take it day by day." “I’ve not heard anything positive in regards to him being back anytime soon," Maddon told reporters about Russell's rehab. Currently, he is only doing light running and he will need a rehab assignment before he is ready to join the club. In 2017, he is batting .241 with 10 homers and 36 RBI. For his short MLB career, he is a .240 hitter with 44 homers, 185 RBI, and .312 on-base percentage.
