Cubs second baseman Javier Baez has agreed to a one-year guaranteed deal worth $5.2 million in his first year being eligible for arbitration. His MLBTR salary projection was $7.1 million. Bryant made $657,000 last season. The move was made to avoid arbitration for both sides and today at 12 p.m. CT was the deadline for new salaries for arbitration-eligible players including Cubs players Kris Bryant, C.J. Edwards, Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Hendricks, Mike Montgomery, and others. All seven players signed with the Cubs and none will be headed to arbitration. Baez hit a career-best .290 with 34 homers, .881 OPS, and 111 RBIs in his MVP runner-up season in 2018. For his career, he is a .267 hitter with 81 homers and 269 RBIs.
