Ben Zobrist headed to DL, Cubs call up infielder

PITTSBURGH – The Chicago Cubs today placed infielder Ben Zobrist on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to June 13) with left wrist inflammation and recalled infielder Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Iowa.

La Stella will be available for the Cubs tonight as they begin their three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

The 28-year-old La Stella joins the Cubs for the third time this season. He is hitting .304 (7-for-23) with two doubles, one home run, two RBI and a .484 on-base percentage in 16 games with the Cubs this season. With Iowa this year, La Stella has batted .213 (20-for-94) with two doubles, a homer and four RBI in 26 games.

La Stella was a member of Chicago’s Opening Day roster and was optioned to Iowa on April 21. He returned to the big leagues on May 7 and returned to Iowa on May 19.

Zobrist, 36, is batting .223 (42-for-188) with seven doubles, two triples, seven homers and 21 RBI in 54 games with the Cubs this season.
