Cubs blowout Angels on Opening Day |
The Los Angeles Angels found out what National League hitters saw all of last season. Chicago's ace
Jake Arrieta is almost unhittable. Arrieta (1-0) allowed only two hits and struck out six in seven innings of work to lead the Cubs to a 9-0 opening day win.
Dexter Fowler doubled to open the game and Anthony Rizzo's single drove him in to put the Cubs up 1-0 in the first. The Cubs would add two more in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Jorge Soler and Miguel Montero.
In the sixth, Montero put the game away with a 2-run homer. Kris Bryant's RBI groundout pushed the lead to 6-0 in the seventh. In the ninth inning, Matt Szczur hit a bases loaded double to make the final score 9-0.
Angels' pitcher Garrett Williams (0-1) took loss giving up three runs in the first five innings.
Chicago and Los Angeles will play game two of the series on Tuesday at 10:00 EST.
