Cubs News: Joe Nathan updates his rehab

by - Senior Editor -

Former six-time All-Star closer Joe Nathan has been battling back from Tommy John surgery he had back in April 2015. Nathan is currently at Double-A Tennessee and has pitched 6.2 innings giving up three hits and two runs in seven total appearances.

"If I continue to progress the way I have, I will be ready," Nathan told Smokies broadcaster, Mick Gillispie. "But it's not just when I'm ready. It's when the club is ready for me to get up there. I want to make sure, to be honest with myself and to be honest with the organization to know when I do go up there; it's going to be to help the team out.

"I don't want to go up there just because I want to be there. When I get up there, I want to be 100 percent, ready to go. Confidence is where it needs to be, and I'm able to go out there and throw three, four days in a row if they need me to."

Nathan is 62-34 with 377 saves and a 2.89 ERA (294 ER/917.IP) in 777 major league appearances.
