by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs catcher Yan Gomes was shown on television in the dugout in some discomfort on Monday night against the Washington Nationals.

After a few moments in the second inning, Gomes left the game with an injury and went inside the locker room.

According to Cubs officials, Gomes was hit in the head with a backswing in the first inning.

He was pulled from the game as a precaution and will be evaluated for a concussion, etc. Tucker Barnhart has come into the game, replacing him.

For the season, Gomes has been impressive, hitting .299 with five homers and 13 RBIs and playing solid defense.

We will update you if we get another update tonight on his condition.
