Jed Hoyer talks Cubs strategy for trade deadline |
A little more than a week to go before the all-important trade deadline as MLB teams try to position themselves for the regular season's stretch run.
According to Cubs President of Operations Jed Hoyer, the Chicago Cubs will not add any talent unless it helps them also for the 2025 season, as he told the media on Monday. “The next seven games obviously matter,” Hoyer said. “Certainly, we saw what could happen last year. So, you never firmly plant your feet. You have to be able to be nimble. I think where we are right now, I would say that moves only for ‘24 – I think unless things change over the next week, I think we probably won’t do a lot of moves that only help us for this year. If moves help us in ’25 and beyond – I think we’re still exceptionally well-positioned – I think that’s what our focus will be. But, like, just helping in ’24, I think that probably won’t be our focus unless things change dramatically.” Things could change if the Cubs went on a massive winning streak. "From a young talent standpoint, from a controllable player standpoint, I feel really good," Hoyer said. "We simply dug a hole with underperformance for two months. That doesn't affect how I view the organization or how I view things going forward but it certainly effects 2024." “The next seven games obviously matter.” Cubs President of Baseball Ops, Jed Hoyer, told reporters that unless things change over the next week, that it looks like the Cubs will be sellers at the Trade Deadline pic.twitter.com/5eLHcCxNc9 Cubs manager Craig Counsell comments on the trade deadline next week.

Cubs president Jed Hoyer said yesterday his expectation is to make moves with 2025 and beyond in mind vs. making moves only to help in 2024.
